World Suicide Prevention Day- 10th September

*WORKING TOGETHER TO PREVENT SUICIDE*

Most of us can hardly imagine the suffering that precedes suicide and the pain left in its wake.
Every year The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) to host World Suicide Prevention Day.

Suicide is not a topic which can be articulated enough to make one understand why people do it. There are multiple factors which can lead to a suicide which include socio-economic problems faced by an individual, trauma at an early age, access to alcohol and drugs to provide a certain numbness, intrusive/compulsive thoughts which make-believe a person into committing a suicide or disorders left undiagnosed or ill-treated. These are only a few factors and the overlap of various factors can amount to a person finding it unable to live.

Gender roles, gender stereotypes and societal standards of living are also major factors. Over the years the number of deaths in youths and the LGBTQIA+ community have been increasing and it a warning to humanity about the sole foundations of metrics we use to evaluate and measure our existence and ethics.

The society even though is a structure to avoid isolation and pertain as a group since the medieval ages, it has carried forward the stigma, the illiteracy, the ignorance and the societal norms used in those early times, a bad metric to judge our growth in today’s modern age. If humans adapt and change year by year, the metrics for survival should change as well, this can be in the form of thought revolution.

Moreover, even if you’re a person who considers yourself as alone, you’re entirely wrong. A talk with your friend or family however distant you/they are or have been, an appointment with a therapist or a psychiatrist. Or even small changes like working out, sleeping and eating well can make a huge difference in your mental health.

In this age, feelings are constantly overwhelming and polarising, yet still there is an whole community out there with issues similar to what you are facing. Fighting for survival of their soul and mental peace, but death is not the answer to it, the key lies in recovery. It’s a continuous life process and a completely natural part of our existence making us all humane.

Remember to error is Human after all.
